Get to Know GRYC Legal Investigator: Aroldo Zuriarrain

At GRYC, our cases rely on a team of professionals who bring deep experience and investigative skill to uncover the truth behind complex medical cases. One of the firm’s key differentiators is the strength of our in-house investigation team. Unlike many firms that rely on third-party investigators on a case-by-case basis, our investigators work closely with our attorneys every day to identify the critical details that drive our cases forward.

Through this “Get to Know” series, we aim to showcase the important work our investigators do and offer a closer look at the people behind it.

Name: Aroldo Zuriarrain

Title: Legal Investigator

What is your professional background, and how does it inform the way you approach investigations at GRYC?

I am a former death investigator with the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department, where I was responsible for responding to complex and often high-pressure scenes, documenting findings, and working closely with law enforcement, medical professionals, and families. That experience trained me to be detail-oriented, objective, and thorough in every aspect of an investigation.

I currently serve as a firefighter with the City of Marathon Fire Rescue, which has further strengthened my ability to assess situations quickly, remain calm under pressure, and prioritize critical information in real time.

Now, as a legal investigator focusing on malpractice and personal injury, I apply that same mindset by thoroughly reviewing records, identifying inconsistencies, and ensuring that every detail is accounted for. I approach each case with the understanding that early investigative work plays a key role in building a strong legal foundation.

Describe an instance where early investigative work significantly impacted the direction of a case.

In a prior case, I responded to an incident that initially appeared straightforward based on the information provided. During the early stages, I identified inconsistencies between the reported events and the physical evidence. By thoroughly documenting the scene, preserving key details, and coordinating timely follow-up, we were able to uncover factors that shifted the direction of the investigation. That experience reinforced the importance of acting quickly and being detail-oriented early on, as those initial findings can significantly influence how a case develops.

What happens during the investigative phase that clients may not realize is critical to the outcome of their case?

One of the most critical aspects clients may not realize is how time-sensitive evidence can be. Surveillance footage can be lost, witness memories can fade, and key documentation can become harder to obtain if not pursued early.

In malpractice and personal injury cases specifically, a large part of the work involves reviewing and organizing medical records, identifying gaps or deviations in care, and working to establish a clear timeline. There is also extensive behind-the-scenes coordination, locating witnesses, securing records, and consulting with experts that play a major role in strengthening a case.

What motivates you most about your role as an investigator?

What motivates me most is the opportunity to uncover the truth in cases where individuals have been seriously injured or may have been failed by a system they trusted. In malpractice and personal injury cases, the outcome often depends on the details uncovered during the investigation.

I take pride in identifying those key facts, whether it’s inconsistencies in records, gaps in care, or overlooked evidence, and helping build a clear, accurate picture of what happened. Knowing that my work can directly impact a client’s ability to obtain answers and accountability is what drives me.
