Alex Arteaga-Gomez

Partner

I work tirelessly for every client we represent.

Alex Arteaga-Gomez is deeply committed to helping individuals in crisis, advocating for victims in general liability, mass tort, and medical malpractice matters. Alex brings his extensive legal experience and personal understanding to every case and client.

Before joining GRYC, Alex served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender at the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, representing clients at trial and on appeal. He has tried cases and argued appeals in both state and federal courts, and represented clients before the U.S. Supreme Court. Across his career in both private and public practice, Alex has tried jury trials in multiple jurisdictions and argued before numerous state and federal appellate courts.

In recent years, Alex has represented clients injured or bereaved in significant mass casualty events in Florida, including the 2017 Hollywood Hills nursing home tragedy during Hurricane Irma, the 2018 collapse of the Florida International University pedestrian bridge, the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and the 2021 collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium.

Alex prides himself in navigating especially complex matters. He regularly represents clients in catastrophic products liability, medical malpractice, and automobile cases. Relying on his extensive experience with criminal law, he also routinely represents clients in catastrophic cases involving third party criminal attacks and sexual assaults.

Alex has an active federal consumer class action practice, representing clients in cases involving recalled products and faulty medical devices. And he has significant experience representing clients in legal malpractice claims. From time to time, Alex also represents attorneys in charging lien and fee dispute cases.

Alex began his career as a law clerk to the Honorable Adalberto J. Jordan, United States District Judge for the Southern District of Florida. He then joined the international law firm White & Case LLP in Miami. Following that, he worked as an associate at the Law Offices of Scott A. Srebnick, P.A., focusing on complex white-collar criminal and civil cases.

Alex brings his personal experiences and background to every representation. Both of his parents fled communism in Cuba at a young age and went on to become mental health professionals in the U.S. Alex takes his role as counselor and advisor as seriously as that of advocate.

His personal experience with the medical field has had a particularly strong impact on his approach to his clients. In 2022, Alex learned for the first time that he was born with a bicuspid aortic valve and had developed an aortic aneurysm. The diagnosis set in motion an exhausting and emotional journey of consultations and testing before he ultimately underwent open heart surgery to correct the problem. The experience gave Alex a unique perspective on the stress, uncertainty, and fear that clients face when dealing with serious medical issues, the complexities of treatment, and the added strain of working with doctors and insurance companies. This firsthand insight fuels his compassion and strengthens his advocacy for those facing sudden life-altering situations.

Alex is a member of the Executive Committee of the Florida Justice Association, a board member of the Miami Dade Trial Attorney Association, a member of the American Association for Justice, and a member of the Federal Bar Association. He has provided pro bono legal services through Legal Services of Greater Miami and the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, with both organizations honoring him for his work on behalf of indigent clients. In September 2025, the Florida Justice Association honored him with the B.J. and Tom Masterson Award for Professionalism.

When not in the courtroom, Alex and his wife Rossana, a trial lawyer in her own right, pursue their passion for wildlife and landscape photography, traveling the globe to capture images of wild animals in their natural habitats. They have traveled to photograph mountain gorillas in Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, orcas in Norway, and whales in Alaska, Australia, Argentina, and Dominica. When at home, he relaxes by cooking and cheering on his beloved Michigan Wolverines.
