Joi F. Spokony

Joi Spokony is a legend in the industry thanks to her unique passion for both nursing and the law. Joi is a licensed registered nurse with over 30 years of combined experience in the medical and legal fields. She began her career in New York as a registered nurse with a focus on orthopedics, neurology, and home health care. She was instrumental in developing a State-approved home health aide training program at a large community hospital before advancing to a position in Utilization Review.

After moving to Florida in the 1990s, Joi applied her education and skills to transition her career path toward her goal of combining her passions. Since 2002, she has been working as a Legal Nurse Consultant and Nurse Paralegal with a focus on medical malpractice. Joi has great insight regarding the evaluation of complex medical malpractice and wrongful death cases which includes analyzing medical records for breaches in the standard of care, detecting record tampering, identifying and consulting with expert witnesses as well as all phases of the discovery and litigation process.

In 2006, Joi graduated magna cum laude from Nova Southeastern University with a Master’s in Health Law degree. This educational experience furthered her knowledge of Tort Law, Administrative Law, Risk Management, and Legal Issues in Healthcare; strengthening her ability to assist the legal team.

Joi served one term as a member of the Florida Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Bar Grievance Committee “F” and was a Guardian ad Litem in Broward County.
