5 Tips to Ensure You Have a Safe Holiday Season

From the offices of Grossman Roth Yaffa Cohen, we’d like to wish all of our clients, friends, and colleagues a happy and safe holiday season.

The holiday season means gathering and spending time with your loved ones, but between the festivities, traveling, last-minute shopping trips, and wrapping up the business year, it also could mean chaos.

At Grossman Roth Yaffa Cohen, we want you to enjoy the holidays in the safest way possible. It’s important to remember the risks associated with this season.

Here are some tips we’d like to share to ensure you stay happy and healthy this year:

  1. Be Safe When Ride Sharing: Companies like Uber and Lyft are great to avoid drinking and driving. However, there are still some concerns about these ride-sharing services. If you catch a ride with one, make sure to wear your seat belt. More accidents happen during a national holiday, and finding a safe ride home doesn’t guarantee an accident-free trip. You should also be aware of your drivers’ behaviors and habits. In some cases, they may have already been driving long hours or they may be under the influence, which could result in serious harm. Additionally, make sure that you or your loved ones are not too intoxicated
  2. Take Care of Your Health Needs Now: Before 2017 slips away, make sure you have gotten all of your annual health check-ups and exams. If you still need some of these tests, make your appointments now. Doctor office appointments fill up as the end of the year looms—and a new annual deductible kick in.
  3. Always Have an Advocate: If you need to seek medical care at a hospital or urgent care facility, be cognizant that staffing isn’t always best during this time. Statistically, more medical malpractice happens during the holidays than at any other time of year. To avoid this, get multiple opinions and have a patient advocate with you.
  4. Maintain Situational Awareness at All Times: Because the holiday season lends itself to an increase in travel, many find themselves in places they’re unfamiliar with. If you’re in this situation, be sure you’re making smart decisions and paying attention to your surroundings. Although it’s a business’s duty to provide a safe environment for an influx of guests, an injury can happen at any given time, and many of them could be avoided with smart decisions.
  5. Research Before Buying Toys Online: We want your children to be safe this holiday season. If you’re buying toys, be wary of the toys that may cause harm to your kids, especially when Internet shopping. Shoppers should beware of recalled toys, toys with deadly track records, and incomplete product information that may mask hazards at the time of purchase.

We hope you take the time to slow down this holiday season and enjoy it with your loved ones!
