GRYC Donates Drone to Key West Fire & Police Departments

The partners of Grossman Roth Yaffa Cohen, leading medical malpractice and personal injury attorneys in Florida, recently donated a $3,000 drone to the fire and police departments of Key West.

Dubbed the ‘Cadillac of drones,’ the new DJI Phantom 4 drone will help the departments during emergency situations, mainly to fly over fires or crime scenes (especially in high-rise buildings), to see the nature and extent of fires and, most importantly, to find victims.

Stuart Grossman’s legal team used the same drone model to investigate a diving incident that left their client paralyzed from the neck down at a Key West resort. The powerful drone, which helped the firm with a $10.75 million settlement in early June, is expected to be an excellent resource for the departments, flying up to 30 minutes at a time and sensing obstacles in five directions.

The firm is also donating the training for an operator from each department, as drone operation in Key West requires an FAA permit and the pilot must be trained and licensed. The departments are establishing policy guidelines for the use of the equipment.
