Surfside Condo Collapse Lawsuits Reach Nearly $1B Settlement, Led by Attorneys Grossman & Furst

Attorney Stuart Grossman and Attorney Rachel Wagner Furst of Grossman Roth Yaffa Cohen acted as lead plaintiff attorneys in the Surfside Condo/Champlain Towers South Collapse litigation, which we have reported on several times in our blog. In a historic moment, both attorneys were recently able to steer negotiations with the defendants to secure a $997 million settlement pool. With one more defendant still in negotiations, it is likely that this settlement pool will reach and then exceed $1 billion.

When the Champlain Towers South building collapsed suddenly, it resulted in the deaths of 98 people, as well as the severe injury and displacement of many others. An investigation revealed a history of neglectful construction and maintenance on the property and the adjacent structure, which ultimately placed the blame on dozens of different companies and defendants. Together, more than 25 such defendants agreed to negotiate with Attorneys Grossman and Furst, among others, leading to the $997 million settlement offer.

Not only is the nearly-$1 billion settlement pool a landmark amount for such a case but it was also reached with practically unprecedented speed. Each day that justice was not delivered to the victims of the collapse and surviving family members was one more day of pain and grief. With this in mind, Attorneys Grossman and Furst put pressure on the defendants to offer a fair settlement sooner than later. It is impossible to undo what happened and replace the loss of life but regaining financial stability can play a significant role in the healthy grieving and recovery process.

From everyone at Grossman Roth Yaffa Cohen, we want to congratulate Attorney Grossman and Attorney Furst for achieving this monumental settlement and victory. We are hopeful that the large amount will help the survivors of the Champlain Towers South collapse regain the comfortable lives they deserve.
